The Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) is the biggest public hospital in Australia and is now officially open for business.
Queensland Premier Campbell Newman opened the hospital on October 30, and described it as one of the best things to happen to the Australian Health Industry.
The $1.76 billion facility means residents of real estate in Surfers Paradise will no longer need to travel to Brisbane to receive some treatments.
New services such as comprehensive cancer care, trauma response, neurosciences, cardiac surgery, neonatal intensive care and nuclear medicine are in the pipeline, with radiation therapy the first to be offered to the public from December.
Gold Coast Health has been planning and constructing the hospital for nine years, said Health Minister Lawrence Springborg.
"I know Gold Coast Health prides itself on the services it provides to the community, and with a leading university hospital as the jewel in its crown, it has much to be proud of," he said.
A private hospital is also planned for the Gold Coast, which will put it on the map for healthcare innovations.
These developments in the health sector are yet another reason why Surfers Paradise property makes a good investment.
