Renewed Emphasis on Sports in the Gold Coast

By Andrew Bell

Sports lovers looking into Surfers Paradise property will be interested to know about the recently-unveiled plans to turn the Gold Coast into an action sports hub during the city's development.

The Gold Coast Sport Plan 2013 – 2023 was launched last Friday (December 6), with the challenge being to help improve the region's already well-established reputation as one of the best sports and recreation destinations in Australia.

One of the specific examples for development was the growth of training camps and international sporting competitions, as well as turning the state into Australia's skateboarding capital.

Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate said that with the population expected to grow, it was time to encourage increased sports participation – which means expansion of the necessary infrastructure.

"Development of a sport plan that aims to leverage opportunities from the new sporting infrastructure being delivered and the international exposure the Commonwealth Games will generate will help ensure a great legacy for the Gold Coast," said Mr Tate in a December 6 statement.

With the state hosting the Commonwealth Games in 2018, Queensland has seen a resurgence in sporting affection, which could present a great opportunity for the state, as well as sport-loving home buyers.
