Gold Coast City is reaching out to the local community for feedback regarding the use of beaches for commercial activities, which could be important to residents living in Main Beach real estate. Following this, it will determined what types of activities people want to occur on the beach, as well as how they should be managed.
Acting Gold Coast Mayor Donna Gates said this was an opportunity for local people to make their voices heard with regard to the future development of their community.
“We want to get the balance right for communities up and down the coast, and the only way we can do that is if locals tell us what business activities they want to see on our ocean beaches,” said Ms Gates in a March 20 statement.
Examples given included seeing more concerts and sports competition, as well as presenting the opportunity for local small businesses like coffee vendors to use the space for their own operations.
The consultation finishes April 14, after which the council will create a management plan for future commercial activities on the beach that will be presented in June.
