How to spend Valentine’s Day in Surfers Paradise

By Andrew Bell

Those who say Paris is the city of love haven’t experienced the romantic charm of the Gold Coast. Between sightseeing excursions to eccentric exhibits, here’s our idea of a perfect Valentine’s Day in Surfers Paradise.

10:00 a.m: Brunch at Elston

Take the time to wake up slow, and enjoy a late breakfast at Elston. Situated on the waterfront at The Esplanade, a seaside breakfast at Elston is the perfect way to start your day of romance with a happy belly. From classic breakfast fare such as Eggs Benny and Potato Hash, to the Build Your Own Brekkie option, there are options for all foodies, including vegans and vegetarians.

11:30 a.m: See the sights at Skypoint

After your relaxing breakfast, it’s time to kick the energy up a notch at Australia’s only beach side observation deck. Ascend 77 stories and enjoy a 360 degree view of Surfers Paradise at Skypoint. The observation deck is a great way to view the Gold Coast regardless of the weather, with large floor to ceiling glass panels to bravely stand on and take a birds eye view of the traffic below. Thrill seekers should book in advance for the Skypoint Climb, where you can reach a height of 270 metres for an open-air, adrenaline filled sightseeing session.

1:00 p.m: Take a picnic to the beach

Surfers Paradise is home to a burgeoning restaurant scene, however, nothing says romance like a picnic date on the beach. There are plenty of places to put your picnic blanket and enjoy the stunning sea-views. Preparing a lunch of your loved one’s favourite treats is a heartfelt way to add a personalised touch to your V-Day celebrations, and can ease some of the tension from your wallet. If your cooking skills aren’t up to scratch, head to Surfers Paradise Seascape restaurant for a classic fish and chip lunch.

3:30 p.m: Ponder the weird and wonderful at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not

Embrace all things odd at Ripley’s Believe It Or Not, with their outrageously obscure exhibits from all over the world. Between shrunken heads and the world’s smallest car, you won’t be stuck for conversation starters here. If you’re up for some friendly competition, try out Ripley’s Impossible LaseRace where you need to escape the room of lasers while beating the clock.

5:00 p.m: Bond over drinks at The Island Rooftop

Enjoy a premium cocktail experience at The Island Rooftop bar. Overlooking Main Beach, this spot is the perfect place for a dusk drink, and with a list of delicious cocktails to choose from you’ll be spoilt for choice. If you’re feeling hungry, grab one of their bao bun share platters – the pork belly bao is a crowd favourite. Upmarket with a welcoming vibe, The Island Rooftop is a great place to watch day turn to night with your date.

7.00 p.m: Dine at Vapiano

For a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner, head to Vapiano for Italian cuisine. Split a pizza or share a bowl of pasta with your date and try some of the many delicious offerings on the menu. A day of love should be a day for sharing, however we won’t blame you if you want to keep the whole pizza for yourself!

9:00 p.m: Take a moonlit stroll down Main Beach

After dinner, take your partner by the hand for a romantic stroll down Main Beach. Under the glow of the moon, round off your day off romantically under the stars.

Late: Retire to Pepper Soul Surfers Paradise

Spend Valentine’s Day night at Peppers Soul Surfers Paradise, a luxury hotel escape that is sure to gain you brownie points with your significant other. The perfect place to rest in luxury after a long day of romantic activities, you’re sure to wake up on the right side of the bed with their exquisite view of the ocean.
