Latest research conducted in Queensland has found the low impact exercise Tai Chi can improve both mental and physical health.
Queensland's Griffith University alongside the city of Gold Coast studied the effect of Tai Chi classes on the health of 500 Queenslanders over a the year.
Participants had a lower body mass index after doing Tai Chi for a minimum of six months and were able to cope with chronic conditions such as obesity and high blood pressure much better after the programme.
They also reported increased quality of life and said they felt they had more social support after participating in the classes.
As well as Tai Chi classes, real estate in Surfers Paradise also puts residents in the prime position to take advantage of parks, beaches and bikeways.
A wide variety of outdoor areas provides those who live in the area with plenty of ways to keep fit. This could be one reason why the Gold Coast is the 'lifestyle capital of Australia.'
The city is number one in state for physical activity with over 60 per cent of residents now meeting national physical activity guidelines, according to the latest Queensland Health Report.
