Finding property to suit your lifestyle on the Gold Coast

By Andrew Bell

The glorious Gold Coast has long been a dream destination for many Australians looking to invest or start a new chapter. From sun baked beaches to the relaxed atmosphere, this is truly a place to enjoy life.

Whether you're looking to get into some prime Main Beach real estate, or you can see your family settling into a Surfers Paradise property, the team at Ray White Surfers Paradise is here to help. We talk to CEO Andrew Bell to find out how you can achieve the lifestyle you've always wanted on the Gold Coast.

Why should you consider moving to the Gold Coast?

One of reasons people move to the Gold Coast is the amazing weather, however other driving factors centre around a sense of renewal.

"Young families who perhaps can't afford to buy in Sydney or Melbourne will often look to start their property journey here in the Gold Coast," says Mr Bell. "In addition, more mature buyers who have finished their working lives and are looking to retire will move here to pursue the Gold Coast lifestyle."

Looking beyond the allure of the good life, there is also currently a huge surge in construction on the Gold Coast, notes Mr Bell. This means that tradies, who tend move where the work is, are coming to the Coast to fulfil the need for builders.

Where should I invest in the Gold Coast?

"There are great opportunities to be had in in the northern suburbs, in particular Coomera and Hope Island," says Mr Bell. "There is also Southport, which has been named the official CBD of the Gold Coast."

As Mr Bell explains, the Gold Coast City Council has recently provided the suburb with special zoning to increased development flexibility. This means there are a lot of affordable apartments and townhouses and inner city style living properties being constructed there.

In addition, Southport has a lot to offer in terms of employment, with the new Gold Coast University Hospital, and Griffith University nearby. Not to mention the opportunities the region will see when the Gold Coast hosts the upcoming Commonwealth Games in 2018.

Ready to live the Gold Coast lifestyle?

"The most common thing I hear from people who live on the Gold Coast is that when they come home after being away, they feel so lucky to live here," says Mr Bell.

"There are small signs of the area growing in popularity, but apart from that it's a very laid back lifestyle."

Mr Bell continues that it is a safe place to live, and the schools are without a doubt amongst the best in the country. While there are magnificent beaches and lifestyle activities such as golfing and fishing, there's also a flourishing cultural scene on the Gold Coast, so there is always something happening.

Mr Bell's advise for keen homebuyers?

"If you're looking to buy a property to live in, you have to remember that it isn't just about buying well. It's about finding a home that you are happy living in 365 days a year, that gives you the lifestyle you want," he says.

"When you come home, you want to be able to say, 'I love this place'."
