Christmas in Surfers Paradise

By Andrew Bell

Christmas is just around the corner and it looks set to be a cracker this year, so get your Yuletide spirit out and prepare for the big day.

If you live in Surfers Paradise property, head down to Cavill Mall and see it lit up in all its festive glory.

This event runs from December 13 until Christmas Eve and starts at midday every day, finishing at 8 p.m. so you can make the most of the balmy nights.

The Australian influence will be clear to see with Santa's sleigh being turned into a surfboat. Instead of reindeer, the boat will be pulled by six white kangaroos.

Bring down your Christmas wish list and don't forget your camera – there will be plenty of opportunities to snap picture with the jolly man in red.

On December 17, Santa will collect all the mail that has been waiting in two special mailboxes – one for big kids and one for smaller children.

You can also partake in carols, storytelling and watch a spectacular LED lighting display.

From December 15 -17 there will also be a fireworks display coinciding with Santa's departure from the beach.

Families are encouraged to come down to treat the kids to an "evening of non-stop entertainment and enjoy the best of what Surfers Paradise offers," said Mike Winlaw, chief executive of the Surfers Paradise Alliance.
