It's hard to imagine a home in Surfers Paradise ever getting cold enough to really feel the chill – but that doesn't mean the dip in temperature goes unnoticed. If you're looking to spruce up your Gold Coast apartment this winter, here are a few tidbits of inspiration to get your decor shopping cart rolling.
1. Keep it luxe
It's tempting to embrace the hangover from our long-lived Scandi love affair and turn your apartment into a snow-kissed wonderland, with pale wood tones and white chunky knits. This year, however, the minimal is making way for sincere opulence.
Look for saturated colours – dark greens and jewel tones especially – to feature in statement throw cushions or other soft furnishings. Blankets should emanate warmth and luxury, so faux furs, velvets or natural wool are the way to go.
2. Get creative with intimate lighting
Even on the sunny Gold Coast, we're not exempt from having fewer daylight hours in the winter. Don't let that get you down though – take this as an opportunity to play with unique lighting ideas in your home. Make up for the dip in temperatures with cosy lighting schemes – think warm white Edison bulbs or vintage lanterns with candles scattered around the living room.
If you're one for seed lights, why not string them around a bed canopy. Combined with your new soft furnishings, the small, low lights will create a truly intimate space for you to unwind in with a book and warming cup of tea.
3. Decorate with nature
Either due to the weather or just seasonal blues, we tend to spend a little more time at home during the winter months. Since you'll be cooped up all that time, it's a good idea to bring a little of the outside in. The Japanese concept of nature therapy (shinrin-yoku) proposes that spending more time connected to nature is beneficial to our blood pressure and mental wellbeing – as proven in the Japanese Journal of Hygiene.
Consider bringing cacti or even a hardy orchid into your apartment for a little bit of extra colour and life.
Decorating for the season helps to mitigate the worst of the winter blues – but it's also a great idea if you're preparing to put your property on the market soon. For hands-on guidance through your home selling process, talk to the team at Ray White Surfers Paradise today.
