What draws people to the Gold Coast? Get the lowdown

By Andrew Bell

The Gold Coast has long been one of the most attractive spots in Australia. Conveniently located by the Pacific Ocean, but with Brisbane just a short drive away as well, living in the coastal metropolis offers Australians the best of both worlds. The Gold Coast, with its wide range of entertainment and lifestyle options, is particular attractive to many.

This is true whether you're a permanent resident in the area or just passing through for a short visit – either way, you're likely to enjoy your time in the Gold Coast. And as a matter of fact, a look at the numbers reveals that scores of Australians are appreciating the area both permanently and for holidays.

Just how popular has the Gold Coast become, and why? Let's explore.

One of Australia's favourite destinations

If you're looking for evidence that the Gold Coast is a popular spot for residents and visitors, you're in luck – it's not hard to find. Whether you're looking to relocate or find affordable rentals in Surfers Paradise, you're absolutely not alone. According to the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre, here are a few of the key facts:

  • The Gold Coast includes more than 57 kilometres of picturesque coastline, much of it bordered by rainforest. There is no shortage of oceanside property where one can kick back and enjoy the beach.
  • The area is famous for its sub-tropical climate, with almost 300 days of sunshine per year. In the summer, the temperature ranges from 19 degrees Celsius to 29. Moreover, the subtropical climate, with an average water temperature of 22 degrees, is great for those who enjoy an outdoor lifestyle regardless of the time of year.
  • The region's total population, including both Gold Coast City and Tweed Shire Council, is now over 500,000. It's increasing at a rate of approximately 12,500 new residents each year, making it one of Australia's fastest growing metro areas.
  • The region also attracts plenty of visitors. Each year, approximately 12million people come to visit the Gold Coast, and on average, they stay for 3.8 days.

If you decide to join the scores of people currently flocking to the Gold Coast, you likely won't be disappointed.

Plenty to do on the Gold Coast

When you come here, you notice it right away – there's a seemingly endless supply of activities to keep you busy. If you get set up with Main Beach real estate, for example, you'll be entertained for days, if not weeks.

Visit Gold Coast notes that chief among the attractions are the outdoor adventures – there are national parks, amusement and theme parks, zoos and plenty of water activities like jet-boating and parasailing. Many scenic drives and walks are also available.

If indoor activities are more your speed, there are plenty of museums, galleries and historical sites that might hold your attention. Restaurants, cafes and bars are also easy to come by and enjoyed by both locals and out-of-town visitors. No matter what you're into, you'll find something on the Gold Coast to entertain you.
