The best vineyards in Surfers Paradise

By Andrew Bell

Buying real estate in Surfers Paradise means purchasing property that's within an hour's drive of some of Australia's best vineyards and wineries. Here's a rundown of some of our favourites.

Cedar Creek Estate Vineyard

Cedar Creek offers the biggest range of wines in the Hinterland. You won't just be going here for the wine, however, as they operate daily glowworm cave tours and have an art gallery on site. The gallery, which hosts works by the "Father of Australian Outback art" Arthur Hamblin, is open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily. You'll be able to walk off any food you have in their restaurant in the Cedar Creek estate, which boasts a rainforest and a lake.

Albert River Wines

Tamborine Mountain forms the backdrop to the restaurant at Albert River, and if the view's not enough to hold your attention, the live music every Sunday at the Vineyard Gazebo should do the trick. The cellar door, meanwhile, is located in the Billiard Room of the historic Auchenflower House, which has been restored to capture the spirit of the colonial days.

Albert River wines have won, amongst other awards, several gold medals in both Australia and the rest of the world, and they use grapes grown right here in Queensland. If you've decided you've had enough of the wine, the estate operate tours of the historic colonial farm, run Tuesday to Saturday from 11 a.m. (booking is essential).

The Heritage Estate

This vineyard has been producing wine for 27 years, and this means they've got their wine making down to a tee, winning awards that, in 2015 included a five-star rating in James Halliday's 2016 Australian Wine Companion. Its location, on Tamborine Mountain, gives it views of the Hinterland leading out to the Pacific Ocean.

The vineyard restaurant, known simply as "The Heritage," offers food from around the world, as well as High Tea at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Witches Falls Winery

The founder of this estate, Jon Heslop, had years of experience as a wine sales representative before he decided he had the passion and drive to create his own vineyard. Since then, his business has flourished, and Witches Falls has recently been awarded a five red star rating (which beats normal stars and are the highest you can get) from James Halliday, with three of the wines on offer judged "gold medal standard."

Witches Falls also offers one of the most affordable vineyard experiences on the list – tasting is $6 for a flight of six wines of your choosing. Afterwards, they'll even supply you with picnic rugs so you can enjoy a glass of your favourite wine and take in the stunning views.

Mount Nathan Winery

Mount Nathan winery is only a half hour drive from your Surfers Paradise property and is also one of the Gold Coast area's oldest vineyards. It is unique in that the winery has beehives on the estate, so that many of the products on offer are honey or honey-based.

Tours include wine tasting directly out of wine barrels, as well as giving you a chance to see the bees at work.

Buying a house shouldn't just be about the property – you need to make sure you're moving somewhere you can enjoy. Surfers Paradise real estate offers you just this, with beautiful beaches, a thriving arts and culture scene, and some excellent vineyards.
