Streamline your move: Tips for simplifying your home shift

By Andrew Bell

As home buyers, it’s almost guaranteed that – at some point – you’ll have to look into moving house. Whether this means hiring professionals or doing it yourself, dealing with the stress of relocating your life to another property is just a fact of life that needs to be dealt with. However, this doesn’t have to be an unpleasant, stressful situation.

There are a number of tips and tricks to help streamline the moving process, allowing you to shift into your new Surfers Paradise property as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Label your belongings before shifting into your Surfers Paradise property

One of the easiest ways to make the transition between your two properties as easy as possible is to adopt a smart packing system. While this may seem obvious, packing boxes by room type will make the process much, much easier. Don’t go packing kitchen appliances in with your clothing and personal belongings, or putting your home office things in with food stuffs from your pantry.

Furthermore, making sure you label the boxes as clearly as possible will help whoever unloads them at the other end – whether it be you or professional movers – to put them in the relative right place. Cutting down on the confusion and overall time wasted at the other end will greatly facilitate the process and help you get settled into your home quickly.

What should you do with your kids while moving into real estate in Surfers Paradise?

Children are the joys of our lives, but can become testing on moving day. After all, having little ones running around an empty house, exploring the property and getting antsy while you’re unloading and setting up your new living space can get annoying.

Consider delegating the kids their own special tasks to take care of during the day. Things like going around for the final sweep of your old home to make sure nothing has been left behind, or doing garden cleanup duty at the new property will keep them occupied and out of the way – allowing you to focus on unpacking and setting up your new life.

If all else fails, sending them away with friends or family for the day could be the easiest solution. Some quality time with grandparents, aunts and uncles or cousins could be well-received, while giving you breathing room to unpack.

Any tips for moving pets?

Animals can be one of the more difficult things to transport to a new property – especially those that don’t often get taken away from home. The first thing to do is ensure their details are up-to-date with the council. Changing their microchip or registration details will help ensure that if they do escape in those early days, they can be returned to the right place.

Following this, the actual process of introducing them to the new home should be done after you’ve unpacked and set up the property. This gives them a stable environment to get used to, one that won’t change too much in those early weeks. Having a specific place for their food and water bowl will facilitate the acclimatising process, helping them learn familiarity with their new surroundings.

These are just some of the things to consider when moving home. Changing up your living situation and purchasing new real estate in Surfers Paradise – or anywhere – can be understandably daunting and difficult. But following these tips can help to make the situation as stress-free and easy as possible.
