Gold Coast Prepares for Commonwealth Games

By Andrew Bell

The Gold Coast is preparing to host the 2018 Commonwealth Games and the Newman Government wants to ensure the benefits last longer than the event itself.

The games will provide benefits to the entire Queensland region, with a huge tourism boost and the potential for economic growth.

The Gold Coast will see an upgrade to their facilities and those with Surfers Paradise property are in prime position to make the most of this.

Those living in Coomera will see a new indoor multi-sport facility built for the Games. This will be available to residents for years to come.

Broadbeach's Convention and Exhibition Centre will host the netball and be the Main Media Centre, and the Broadbeach Bowls Club will hold the lawn bowls competition.

Those with Main Beach real estate can pop over to Southport and will be able to enjoy the upgraded Gold Coast Aquatic Centre, which will be the home of swimming and diving during the Games. The Parklands will be one of the main live sites where spectators can take in the race walks, triathlons and marathon races.

Plans to ensure long-term benefits also include using the Games Village as a health and knowledge precinct after the games have concluded.

This will provide more jobs and a boost to the local economy that will continue even after sporting teams have left the country.
